"Mt. Airy wrestler Jamie Hearl is back. Last Friday she competed in one of the toughest tournaments in the country(Beast of the East) w lots of nationally ranked girls. Placed 4th at 100 lbs. Broke the family record for the fastest pin w a 7-second pin.
After the tournament, Jamie was awarded the Sayer Rhys Evans Award. The award, in memory of a young man who lost his life to suicide, recognizes a wrestler that is “resilient, compassionate, selfless, and who bravely faces all challenges.” While fighting through tears, Jamie vulnerably spoke openly in front of the entire arena about her difficult journey to overcome recent mental health challenges.
Keep Showing Up Jamie Hearl. Keep believing in yourself. Keep taking time to take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Keep telling your story so that others dealing with similar struggles will know they are not alone and that a better day is coming sooner than they may realize."

“Good sportsmanship is treating others with respect, whether you win or lose.
Congratulations to Jamie Hearl, the first-ever winner of the Sayer Rhys Evans Award. This award recognizes a wrestler who is resilient, compassionate, selfless, and who bravely faces all challenges.
If you’ve ever been to Sean’s House, you’ve seen (and probably enjoyed!) Sayer’s Suppers. They are a labor of love from his mother, Donna, who provides these delicious meals and treats for our guests in honor of her son, Sayer, who lost his life to suicide in 2022.
Now, Donna is taking it a step further by awarding this special honor to a deserving wrestler in the Beast of the East tournament who lives out Sayers’ legacy.
Jamie Hearl embodies the Sayer Rhys Evans award with her bravery and good sportsmanship. She recently visited Sean’s House with our award to see what the buzz around 136 is all about. Jamie- congratulations and know you always have fans to support you here on West Main Street!"
