Hello, my name is Jamie Hearl, and I am from North Carolina. I founded Mindset. in July of 2024, driven by a passion to help others who are struggling with mental health. Currently, I am a freshman at Emmanuel University in Franklin Springs, GA, where I’m majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Christian Ministries.
My journey began when I started wrestling in my sophomore year of high school, competing alongside both boys and girls. As I became more absorbed in the sport, my focus on achieving perfection took over. I neglected my well-being and relationships, believing that my worth was tied solely to my success on the mat. Over time, this unhealthy obsession strained my mental health and my connections with others.
By the end of my high school career, the pressure to constantly perform led to severe mental health struggles. In October of 2023, overwhelmed by the weight of my own expectations and fear of failure, I attempted to take my life. This dark period led me to step away from wrestling, seek inpatient treatment, and most importantly, grow in my faith.
Through this journey, I came to realize that I wanted to make a positive impact on those around me. I didn’t want anyone to feel as I did during those difficult times—trapped in silence, where suicide felt like the only way out. I wanted to create a platform that would reduce the stigma around mental health and advocate for those still fighting similar battles.
As I finished my senior year of wrestling, Mindset. was born. The goal behind it was simple: to provide a space where people could find encouragement, vulnerability, and hope. I understood that sharing my story would be the first step in helping others feel seen and heard.
Wrestling taught me many valuable lessons, especially about hard work and consistency. But the greatest lesson I’ve learned is that overcoming challenges requires more than just physical strength. Through my struggles, both in the sport and within my own mind, I’ve discovered the importance of pressing into my faith and reaching out for support when needed.
This is the essence of Mindset.—to inspire others to seek help, embrace vulnerability, and press forward, no matter the struggle.
